I have a APC Backup 350 CS UPS I recently bought that I'd like to connect to my computer. It didnt' come with the RJ45 to USB cable, and I'm not in the market to dish out 35 bucks for a basic cable. According to APC forum, letter suffix is related to (change of?) manufacturer or revision, not wiring, and cables are electrically interchangable.

'Simple scheme' diagram further below looks correct for 940-0024 & A,B,C or D revisions and 940-1524 which is 15' long cable; and matches what viewed on a third-party site.

At the PC end: pins 1,4 (DCD, DTR) shorted; pins 7,8 (RTS, CTS) shorted.

The 9,1,2 pins look OK for the basic mode, but the smart mode seems to need extra components.
4+9=GND
8=25V
7=5V

Apply the port settings to establish the connection.
